Hello, and thank you for visiting this website.  We are Helen Lim and Michelle Lim Warner, mother and daughter, raising funds with YOUR help to build homes for families of Carles, Iloilo, Philippines who were displaced by Typhoon Haiyan.

Our goal is to raise $10,000.

This amount will help build a 2-bedroom, small, but strong home for 15 families.  Of course, surpassing this goal would be even better as we’ll be able to help more in need!

While much of the news has focused on the City of Tacloban, Carles was also directly on Typhoon Haiyan’s destructive path.  More than 1,200 individuals have been displaced in this area.  The elderly and children and their families are left homeless.  Most people are currently living in make-shift shelters made of whatever scraps of bamboo and tin roof that they  were able salvage.  Even churches and schools that could have provided shelter have no roof.  Unfortunately, little relief and aid for food and water is reaching Carles.  Many people are often left with nothing to walk away with after standing, nearly all day, in line with the little aid that has reached them.  Adding to the tragedy, the local government has not been active in the relief and rebuilding efforts.  Typhoon Haiyan has wrecked livelihoods on a massive scale…destroying crops, livestock, coconut plantations and fishing boats in Carles as it has done in the other provinces along its path.

Carles is a very special place to our family.  It’s where Helen grew up with her six brothers and sisters, raised by her parents, Clarita and Alberto Bellosillo.  It’s where Michelle brought her husband Michael to get her grandmother’s blessing before getting married and where she has returned often to visit to get to know her mother’s childhood home and community.

We decided to raise funds as a private charity because we know that the relief funds will not effectively reach the people of Carles if provided to an organization, and even so, the government.  The inactivity of local government, the slowness of aid to reach this remote area, and the history of corruption in the Philippines has led us to this decision.
